History of Montreal and F1 in Canada

Montreal first hosted a Formula 1 race back in 1978, with local hero Gilles Villeneuve triumphing for Ferrari. Following the Canadian’s death, the venue was renamed the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve and has been a regular feature on the calendar. You need only look back to 2011, when Jenson Button stormed through the field to take victory on the final lap, to understand just how special this track is…

Getting to the Gilles Villeneuve circuit

The Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is serviced by the Montreal subway system (STM), with the Jean-Drapeau metro station situated at the track. This makes getting to and from the circuit quick, easy and hassle-free. Whether you are staying in the north, or in downtown Montreal, a public transit ticket – available at all subway stations – is recommended, as parking spaces are extremely limited at the track.

Popular Formula 1 tickets for Montreal

With plenty of chicanes and heavy braking zones, Montreal is a prime location to watch Formula 1 drivers in action. Grandstands 11 and 12 offer superb views of the track as the cars jostle for position in the opening sequence of corners, while Grandstand 15 always proves to be a popular choice for its location at one of the best overtaking spots, the Turn 10 hairpin.
