Last season info Shanghai China
When the green lights went out to start the race it was Fernando Alonso, starting from third, who managed to get into the lead. But while Alonso was in the lead, pole sitter Vettel had to deal with his own teammate. Webber was able to simply drive up the inside of Vettel (who was probably distracted by the unexpected appearance of a Ferrari ahead of him) into the hairpin at Turn 6. There was a Safety Car period when Vitantonio Liuzzi's car spun and hit Sebastien Buemi's Toro Rosso, taking Kamui Kobayashi into the chaos as well. The Safety Car coming out was the signal for many of the leaders to pit for intermediates. Red Bull's decision to align their cars cost Vettel crucial time, especially after Webber had overshot the Pit Box slightly. The Safety Car came after the 22 most hectic laps ever seen in F1. And while Vettel was stranded in the lower reaches of the top 10, Hamilton was able to make his way towards the head of the field, past the 2 Renaults into second behind Button. There was nearly a twist at the end; Hamilton slicing into Button's advantage, often at 2 seconds a lap. Button took the win despite Hamilton closing to 1.5 seconds on the final lap. No team orders had been given at McLaren and potentially they could have been racing each other for the win. Jenson Button won his second race of the season after an exciting Chinese F1 Grand Prix at Shanghai International Circuit. Button led a McLaren one-two finish with Hamilton finishing second. Nico Rosberg completed the podium.
