Shanghai China circuit
The Chinese Formula 1 race track, Shanghai International Circuit, has an overall length of 5.451,24 m and includes 7 left and 7 right turns. The longest straight lays parallel to the Dragster track and has a length of 1.175 m. Viewed from overhead, the circuit's shape is redolent of the Chinese symbol "Shang", which translates as "high" or "above".
Further unique characteristics of the Shanghai F1 track layout are turns with snail-like narrowing, turns with snail-like expansion and two pointed turns. The constant change between acceleration and deceleration parts, connected by high speed sections represents a challenge in driving, offers sufficient opportunities for overtaking maneuvers and achieves an intensive and tensional experience of motor sport for the spectators.
According to computer simulations, current-generation Formula 1 cars will lap the track in about 1m 34s at an average speed close to 205 km/h (127.4 mph) during the Chinese F1 Grand Prix. On the longest, 1175-metre straight, which links Turns 13 and 14, cars should reach a maximum speed of 327 km/h (203mph).
Region
Shanghai has enough to keep you occupied for weeks. To name just a few sites, there is the antiques market in Dongtai Lu, the Shanghai Museum, the original HSBC Bank from 1865, the Shanghai Exhibition Centre and the Confucian Temple. For something a bit different, why not check out the famous Laughing Buddha at Lingyin Temple in Hangzhou, just south west of Shanghai. China is, of course, a huge country with lots to see outside of its principal cities. The Great Wall is only a plane ride away. The most famous section is around Beijing, a two-and-a-half-hour flight from Shanghai.
