Last season info Montreal Canada
With teammate Button on his tail, Hamilton managed to maintain his lead at the start over Sebastian Vettel, Alonso and Mark Webber. Vettel and Webber were giving them a hard time though and Button was the 1st one to give up his position to Vettel, who was then pursuing Hamilton. The hot weekend in Montreal was mainly a menace for the tires during the Canadian F1 Grand Prix. The unexpected high temperatures and dry weather conditions made the tires wear down faster than usual. The ones that trusted on soft tires got in trouble within 7 laps. Button, Hamilton and Alonso all pitted for the harder Bridgestones tires. After that, Hamilton took the lead again from Vettel with Alonso pursuing him. With the exception of Webber, all drivers had their soft tires changed for hard ones during the Canadian GP. Webber was leading for a while, but got caught up in the group of Hamilton, Alonso, Button and Vettel. After Hamilton passed, Webber left for the pits. This made Hamilton lead the Canadian F1 race again. At the end of the Montreal GP race, Hamilton made sure he had a 2 seconds lead over his rivals. Alonso had to give his 2nd position to Button who gave McLaren a double victory at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. Due to problems with his car, Vettel could not pass Alonso and finished 4th in front of Webber. McLaren was now op top in both Championships. Hamilton was leading the drivers' Championship with 109 points and McLaren is leading the constructors Championship with 215 points.

Historic info Montreal Canada
The Canadian Grand Prix is held since 1967. In 1971 safety concerns lead to the Grand Prix moving permanently to Mosport. In 1978 the Canadian Grand Prix moved to its current home on Ile Notre-Dame in Montreal. The first winner in Montreal was Quebec native Gilles Villeneuve who died in 1982 on the final qualifying lap for the Belgian Grand Prix. A few weeks after his death, the race course in Montreal was named Circuit Gilles Villeneuve after him. The 1982 Canadian Grand Prix, already dreary because of the death of Villeneuve a month earlier, saw another horrific accident with Didier Pironi. The 1997 Canadian F1 Grand Prix was stopped early due to a huge accident involving Olivier Panis. In 1999, the final corner of Circuit Gilles Villeneuve became well-known for catching out former World Champions. Damon Hill, Michael Schumacher and Jacques Villeneuve all crashed into the same wall which had the slogan Welcome to Quebec on it. The wall became affectionately known as the "Wall of champions".
