After his difficult start of the season, the final qualification for the Grand Prix of Spain gave Mark Webber a good opportunity to challenge his competitors in the F1 World Championship. Vettel and Hamilton were looking for an opening but they could not take the lead at the start of Spain Formula 1 Grand Prix. The Spanish F1 race came alive after the pit stops when Hamilton overtook Vettel after both drivers pitted in the same lap. Just when everybody thought that the race was over, Sebastian Vettel added some more drama. He spun off the track because his RBR-Reanult had almost no brakes left. At this time Webber was already out of sight. In the penultimate lap of the Spanish Formula 1 Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton encountered problems of his own when his tire came off and his McLaren crashed into the tire wall. This cost him a deserved podium finish. Alonso moved into 2nd and Vettel (still without brakes) got a podium place. Webber, who remained untouchable the whole race, finally scored his 1st victory of the season.

The Spanish Grand Prix is a Formula 1 race held at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona. The very first Spanish Grand Prix was held in 1913. In 1955, a terrible accident at Le Mans resulted in regulations governing spectator safety, and the pedestrian-lined street track at Pedralbes was dropped from the racing calendar. In 1968, Jarama hosted the Spanish Grand Prix. The 1975 Grand Prix was marked by tragedy. Double-winner Emerson Fittipaldi retired in protest after a single lap. Rolf Stommelen's car crashed killing four spectators. The race was stopped. The Spanish Grand Prix was confined to Jarama until 1981. In 1985, the Mayor of Jerez commissioned a new racing circuit in his town to promote tourism and sherries. The track was finished in time for the 1986 championship, which saw a furious battle between Ayrton Senna and Nigel Mansell, with the two cars finishing side by side. The 1990 Spanish Grand Prix was the last in Jerez. Work on the Circuit de Catalunya was underway in Barcelona, and in 1991, the event moved to this new track, where it has remained since. In 2006, Fernando Alonso was the 1st Spaniard ever to win the Grand Prix of Spain.
